An Analysis on Research Trends of Leisure for the Elderly

Abstract
Objective : The objective of this study is to review the current researches on the elders¡¯ leisure activities in Korea, becoming a super aging society, and to provide with a constructive suggestion.

Methods : The methodology of this study is to collect the researches on the elders¡¯ leisure activities conducted in the recent five years, using the databases of Academic Research Information Service (RISS) from the Korea Education & Research Information Service (KERIS) and DBpia. Among them, thirty-five articles were finally selected and categorized by the published years, publishers, and contents of studies to analyze the trend of the recent studies.

Results : First, by the published years, minimum five and maximum seven articles on the elders¡¯ leisure activities were published between 2012 and 2017. Second, by the publishers, sixteen articles on the elders¡¯ leisure activities were issued by academic societies, four articles were issued by research institutes and one was issued by the Research Institute for Health Promotion. The most frequent publisher was the Korean Association of Content, which issued seven articles which takes about twenty percent of the entire cases of this study. Third, by the contents of the study, they are classified into eight themes, namely welfare facilities of the elders, leisure and wellbeing of life & life satisfaction, leisure and mental society, leisure programs, vitalization of leisure, policy on elders¡¯ leisure, leisure and health, and leisure conditions. Among them, eleven articles are on the leisure and wellbeing of life & life satisfaction, which takes 31.5 percentages of the entire studies.

Conclusion : It is important to come up with the solutions for elderly problems, becoming serious matters in the Korean society, and to have policy researches to help the elders enjoy the rest of their life. The short and long term studies on the elders from various perspectives should also be conducted. Finally, the continuous review on the previous studies will be helpful to improve the quality of research.
